Spanish Wind Atlas
The Institute for Energy Diversification and Saving, IDAE, makes this Wind Atlas of Spain publicly available. The atlas has been developed by the company Meteosim Truewind using up-to-date top technology. This has been done with a dual purpose:
- First of all, to serve as support for the totality of Spanish Public Administrations in terms of wind farm planning and other wind-related studies. In particular, concerning General State Administration, the atlas will be available for wind potential evaluation in Spain, oriented to first-guess studies previous to developing future Renewable Energy Plans.
- Secondly, to provide the stakeholders, and the general public, with a tool enabling to identify and evaluate in a first approach the existing wind resource in any area of the National territory. The objective is to avoid wasting time and unproductive costs for potential developers of future wind projects during their previous phase.
The Wind Resource Study of Spain is publicly available for free query and use, by navigation through a Geographical Information System which enables to estimate wind resource at every grid point generated in the map - in a mesh with 100 m microscale resolution. The functionality of GIS has been highlighted by including complementary information of interest: cartographic and topographic, environmental figures, maritime zoning, etc. As well as that, the interface includes intuitive navigation devices to make browsing easier for the user. In a specific paragraph, the user can download different wind maps in PDF format, for the entire Spanish territory and for every Self-governing Community and Autonomous City.
